Volcano Route

The Volcano Route is one of the most imposing trails in the Canary Islands: seventeen kilometres crossing the volcanic ridge of La Palma, from Refugio El Pilar to Fuencaliente, over flows of black lava that redefine the very concept of landscape.

For this documentary, EficiencIAl Studio shot on the trail and combined that real footage with AI-generated sequences that reconstruct what that same territory looked like during the peak moments of the volcanic eruptions that formed it: rivers of magma advancing along the crest, columns of ash against an orange sky, and the slow cooling of the lava that drew the path hikers walk today.

The result is an audiovisual piece that travels between the present and the geological origin of the island, fusing reality captured on camera with AI-generated historical reconstruction so that both layers are inseparable to the viewer's eye.
