Volcano Route

The Volcano Route is one of the most imposing trails in the Canary Islands: seventeen kilometres crossing the volcanic ridge of La Palma, from Refugio El Pilar to Fuencaliente, over flows of black lava that redefine the very concept of landscape.

For this documentary we filmed the trail with drones, in collaboration with BeeDron Record, an aerial cinematography company in the Canary Islands, and its sister drone-operations brand Bee3Dron. Over that real aerial footage we applied a layer of AI directed shot by shot: birds crossing in the foreground, curved trajectories impossible for a camera, generated transitions, and reconstructed eruptions, with rivers of magma advancing along the crest, columns of ash against an orange sky, and the slow cooling of the lava that drew the path hikers walk today.

The result is an audiovisual piece that travels between the present and the geological origin of the island, fusing reality captured from the air by drone with AI-generated historical reconstruction so that both layers are inseparable to the viewer's eye.
