Teneguía 1971: the eruption recovered

A historical reconstruction of the eruption of the Teneguía volcano on La Palma (October–November 1971). We start from old, deteriorated archive images of the event, restore and recolour them, and animate them with AI to bring back to life the 24 days of the last terrestrial eruption in the Canary Islands before 2021.

This rebuilds what happened over Fuencaliente: lava flowing toward the sea, evacuated villages, and the landscape transforming before the eyes of an entire island. One fatality from gases, terrain claimed from the ocean, and a story that marked La Palma forever. Recovered memory: historical material brought back to the present with colour, motion and detail.
